Finally, once flat, press firmly in the center until you feel the head flatten behind the wall. You should see the face of the charm flush with the material, with no visible gap.
The hot water trick
A new charm, taken out of a bag that has been kept cool, is stiffer than it will ever be. Soak it for ten seconds in hot tap water: the PVC softens significantly and installation becomes easy. The same trick works on the shoe itself, whose material slightly relaxes.
Removal, in reverse
To remove a charm, slide a finger inside the shoe and push the head outwards. Never pull on the front: the stem is the thinnest part of the piece, and it's what will break. If access is difficult, the handle of a small spoon makes an excellent lever, placed flat so as not to mark the material.

The thumb test
After each placement, try to pivot the charm between two fingers. If it turns freely, it is not locked: the head is still engaged in the thickness of the hole instead of having passed behind. Push firmly. A properly placed charm turns with difficulty and does not tip.

If a specific hole is definitely too wide, place a small silicone disc—the type of stopper used for earrings works very well—on the stem, on the inside, before pressing it flat. This thickens the assembly and eliminates play. It's not elegant, but it's inside the shoe and no one sees it.
The right reflex when traveling
